What Are These Strange Black Dots In Your Kitchen

Finding small black spots around your kitchen can be alarming, especially if they keep reappearing after cleaning. While many assume they’re insect droppings, one possible explanation is spider droppings—thick, liquid-like stains resembling tiny ink splashes, unlike the solid pellets left by rodents or cockroaches. They often appear on baseboards, walls, ceilings, or window frames near where spiders build webs.

Typically no larger than a pinhead, spider droppings can be black, brown, gray, or white depending on the spider’s diet. Since spiders favor quiet, undisturbed areas, marks are commonly found in corners, behind furniture, or under cobwebs. While there’s no strong evidence they transmit disease, it’s still wise to avoid direct contact—use gloves or a paper towel when cleaning, then wash your hands thoroughly. Fresh stains wipe away easily, while older ones may need a mild household cleaner. If stains keep returning, cleaning alone won’t solve the issue. Reducing spider populations is key: remove cobwebs regularly, vacuum hidden spaces, seal entry points, and minimize clutter. If problems persist, consulting a licensed pest control professional can help identify and address the underlying cause.
