When my son Nathan told me that one of the most well-known girls in his high school had invited him to prom, I didn’t know how to react. Nathan had always been thoughtful, respectful, and hardworking, but he was also incredibly shy. He preferred books over crowds, rarely sought attention, and often kept to himself. So when Madison asked him to prom in front of classmates, he came home happier than I had seen him in years.
